What’s one thing people should know about your role or your work?
As the founder and managing director of Lamourie Media, I use my strategies, influence, and understanding of the media landscape to elevate my clients and expand their reach, client base, and global reputation. I get them interviewed in local, national, and international media, I get their products on best-of lists and gift lists, I get them quoted in magazines that are household names. As someone once said to me - basically, I sell success!
-
What was one defining moment early in your career?
Interestingly enough, I didn’t learn to write a press release because I wanted to be a publicist. I learned to write a media release as a young activist on a justice issue. Ultimately, that became a 20-year campaign that freed an innocent man, Jimmy Dennis, from death row. The years learning how media worked ultimately led to me becoming a publicist a long time later, offering business services to organizations and people that needed media attention.
-
How do you define success in your current position?
To me, success is the ability to choose who I want to work with. I say no to almost as many projects as I say yes to - I like working with genuine people who care about authenticity and love what they do, who are making great things happen - and that no two days look the same ever.
-
Which skills have been most valuable to your success?
The ability to communicate effectively is essential to the success of any human being in any role - it’s obviously even more essential to a publicist. The ability to read people and to be able to deal with different kinds of personalities has also been invaluable in building lasting relationships and achieving meaningful results for clients.
-
How do you see your profession evolving in the next few years?
It’s hard to say - PR has changed so dramatically in the last two decades, the work is almost unrecognizable from years ago. Most of the relationships are different now, and tools like AI have changed the way we work. Who can say what’s to come next?
-
What values guide your decision-making at work?
My personal values and my professional values align. It’s simple - people are the bottom line.
-
Who or what played a key role in your success story?
My husband and business partner, Dave Parkinson, without a doubt. He has been beside me every step of the way, from our young activist days to business success.
-
What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
Truly just have the confidence in yourself to know you belong at the table. Share your ideas, learn from others, and work hard. Confidence and authenticity will take you further than you might imagine.
