What’s one thing people should know about your role or your work?
One thing people should know about my work is that recruitment is much more than filling roles - it’s about understanding people, potential, and fit. I spend time learning what truly motivates candidates and what teams need beyond just skills. It’s a mix of strategy, empathy, and intuition, and when done right, it can completely transform how a team grows and performs.
-
What lesson from your first job still guides you today?
The biggest lesson I learned from my first job is the importance of listening - really taking the time to understand people before responding or acting. It taught me that good communication isn’t just about speaking clearly, but about empathy and awareness. That mindset has stayed with me and continues to shape how I build relationships and make decisions at work.
-
What does a typical day look like in your role?
I start by reviewing hiring priorities, checking in with stakeholders, and managing active pipelines. Much of my day goes into sourcing, screening, and speaking with candidates - making sure each interaction feels personal and meaningful. I also take time to refine processes, track progress, and look for better ways to make hiring smoother and more human.
-
Which skills have been most valuable to your success?
The most valuable skills to my success have been communication, adaptability, and empathy. Being able to connect with people from different backgrounds, listen carefully, and understand what motivates them has made all the difference. Adaptability has helped me stay effective in fast-changing environments, while empathy keeps my work people-focused, making every interaction genuine and impactful.
-
What’s one change you’d like to see in your industry?
I think the industry could benefit from balancing technology and automation with genuine human connection. AI should be used as a copilot, helping recruiters work smarter - not as a gatekeeper that screens people out. The goal should be to make every interaction feel personal, human, and meaningful, so candidates feel seen and valued rather than processed.
-
How would you describe your leadership style?
I’d describe my leadership style as collaborative and supportive. I like to create space for people to share ideas, take ownership, and grow in their roles. I believe in leading with trust, clear communication, and empathy - setting expectations but also being there when guidance or encouragement is needed. My goal is to help people feel confident, valued, and motivated to do their best work.
-
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of building strong, inclusive recruitment processes that truly changed how teams hire. One project that stands out was helping a company scale quickly while keeping quality and candidate experience at the centre - resulting in faster hiring and better retention. Seeing both the business and the people succeed because of a thoughtful hiring approach is what makes me feel most accomplished.
-
What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
I’d say start by being curious and open to learning - every conversation teaches you something. Don’t rush to have all the answers; focus instead on listening, observing, and building genuine relationships. Stay organised, be consistent, and remember that kindness and professionalism go a long way. Most importantly, enjoy the process - growth in this field comes from both wins and lessons.
